Penguin photo frame

1989

This is a penguin photo fame that we picked up in the gift shop when we did a penguin tour from Adelaide to Granite Island with Anton. The tour was fun – we got a few penguins for the collection!

Big ugly penguin

1985

Well, it had to happen… I can’t actually remember where we got this penguin. I know it was recent and fairly local. Martin remembers thinking it was ugly when we bought it…

Penguin lolly bowl

1981

This is a ceramic penguin lolly bowl. It does look quite a bit like a very small penguin urinal! It was a Xmas gift from my parents…

Stacking penguins

1980

This is a stacking penguin kids toy, made by Brio. We bought it half for the collection and half for Sebastian. Brio issued a voluntary recall on it as one of the penguin beaks may fall off if dropped and pose a choking hazard. So, now it is just for the collection.

Balancing penguins

1978

We got these gorgeous wooden balancing penguins in Te Anau in New Zealand.  There are five indiviual penguins and you can rebalance them in any number of combinations. It is a bit of fun, but can be noisy when they fall!

Big wooden penguin

1976

I have to admit to thinking that this is one of the uglier penguins in the collection… We got it from the floriade shop. It is big and wooden!

Little penguin plate

1970

We bought this little penguin plate while doing a penguin tour. We stopped at the Royal Albatross Centre, and had a snack and a last toilet stop for many hours! We bought a couple of penguin items, including a scarf as well as a non-penguin beanie because it was absolutely freezing and the wind was insane – and later while hiking to the penguin colony, we were really glad we did!!
